Easter and Christmas
Christmas and Easter are special to every Christian. At CUMC we believe in the spirit of these special holidays. Every year the Missions team identifies a current global issue to sponsor for each of the two holidays. We select one local, one national, and one international program that relate to this issue and provide education and coordination for these special appeals.
2007 Easter Offering
There are many kinds of nets in the world: butterfly nets, soccer nets, fishing nets, and of course, basketball nets. Most are associated with fun and games. But in Senegal, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and other countries in Africa, the word nets means: mosquito nets. Facts:
The people of the United Methodist Church are a founding partner of Nothing But Nets , along with the National Basketball Association, Sports Illustrated and the United Nations Foundation. Nothing But Nets helps save children’s lives by preventing malaria. You can help children to be well. Bed nets are effective tools in the battle against malaria. A family of four can sleep under an insecticide-treated bed net, safe from malaria. We just got an email that said our Senegal Mission is already distributing these nets through their Wellness Program that we support.
2007 Easter Offering (continued)
The United Methodist Church in Africa uses community based healthcare resources to distribute the nets in the villages, educate families on malaria prevention, and provide follow-up on the usage of the nets. Your Easter gifts will help children to be well from malaria. For more that 112 years, ChildServ has been helping vulnerable children and their families in the Chicago land area. Today, ChildServ serves more that 3,700 children annually in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties. Community United Methodist Church helped ChildServ open a group home here in Naperville for 6 teenage girls needing a safe place to live and finish high school. Several of these girls have come to worship with us in the tent. Your Easter gifts will help children to be well in the ChildServ homes. The United Methodist Children’s fund for Christian Mission is a joint project of the General Board of Discipleship and the General Board of Global Ministries. The Childrens Fund helps rescue hungry and hurting children, to provide safe places to grow, and to hear that God loves them. All of your Easter gifts will help children to be well. Next week, use the special Easter envelope that was mailed to you. If you forget that envelope, just mark one of envelopes in the pews “Easter”. Community United Methodist Church can help children to be well. |
