CUMC’s Evangelism Team’s mission is two-fold: Building community within Community and Inviting community to Community. The evangelism team holds responsibility for hospitality, “Mug” ministry, new member receptions and North Central College Relations. Recognizing that evangelism is a part of everything that happens at Community UMC, the team works on training ushers and greeters to be a part of a welcoming congregation; plans and implements planned events during the year which encourages fellowship and reaches out into the surrounding community in outreach activities recognizing the invitation to be part of the church is vital. Judy Burton currently holds the position of chair of this team.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those in our congregation who are experiencing a crisis or period of difficulty in their lives. Stephen Ministry is a supervised ministry. Stephen Ministers meet regularly in peer supervision and continuing education sessions to ensure that the best possible Christian care is being given. Because this is a confidential ministry, what a care receiver tells a Stephen Minister remains in strictest confidence. Even in supervision, the names of care receivers and specific details are never disclosed. People seeking the support of a Stephen Minister are matched with an appropriate caregiver through confidential contact with the Stephen Ministry Referrals Coordinator. If you would like to have a Stephen Minister or if you are interested in learning more about our program, please contact Mary Jacobs or Tom Babler. |
