A special session of our Church Conference is being called to consider a matter important to the life and ministry of this congregation. Rev. Danita Anderson, our District Superintendent, has authorized the conference to be convened on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider and vote on a resolution proposing that we lease facilities from North Central College for the use our On Center contemporary worship service. The facility in question is the theater in the newly renovated Meiley-Swallow Hall, formerly Grace United Methodist Church. The terms and conditions of the lease along with a financial plan to cover the cost of the agreement will be presented with the resolution. These materials will be available by e-mail and hard copy one week before the meeting.
Danita Anderson has appointed Rev. David Eichelberger, Pastor of Fourth Street UMC, Aurora, to preside at the conference in her absence. All members of Community Church have voice and vote in the Church Conference and are urged to attend. Child care will be provided.
The conference will convene in the Sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the meeting a tour of the Meiley-Swallow facility will be offered. Persons interested in the tour are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall of Community Church at 6:45 p.m. Members of our Facilities Committee will lead the group to Meiley-Swallow and back before the 7:30 meeting.
In United Methodist tradition the Church Conference is not merely a business meeting. It is an occasion of "conferring" in Christian fellowship. So the call to "confer-ence" is also a call to prayer. Together in grace we have the privilege and responsibility to pray and to deliberate and to decide for the sake of Christ's Church. God bless us and guide us in our charge.
